I had a spook visit me along Wolf Grove Road just after midnight, when I was driving back home.
It was white and had four long legs. Going at a slow trot in the same direction as I was headed – westerly – but happily, it was on the left side ie. the oncoming lane….and no other cars around.
I only noticed it when I was almost upon it. In my head….”Shit! There’s a deer on the road!” Hoping it wouldn’t get startled and then run in front of me.
Nope. It maintained its cool. A beautiful buck with a good sized antler crown. As soon as I realized what it was – only looked white in my headlights – I stopped and waited to see where it was. I opened my car window. Hard to see behind me. I finally noticed its form turn onto my side of the road and go a bit further.
I carried on….and hoped that the buck would have disappeared by the time the car behind me reached that spot. Kept looking in my rear view mirror, and that car eventually reached the spot and kept right on going without incident, so the deer probably took off into the woods there.
Wow. What an interesting encounter.
A small patch of woods
In the fog’s embrace; spooky,
It was a somewhat foggy morning yesterday, when I was heading for work.
Funny how something can suddenly grab your attention.
As I turned left on the road and then happened to glance to my left, something immediately caught my eye!
It was the effect of the light caused by the foggy greyness and the patterns of the bare tree silhouettes.
I kept on driving, but that image stayed strongly with me.…
So I stopped the car. Thought about it. That kind of imagery doesn’t happen all the time…..so better to grab this photo op while I can.
I drove back and turned around and slowly repeated my path…..taking photos with my phone. Then I noticed the spot again. It was the one with the large tree in the left foreground with its arms reaching out and to the right, towards that unknown area.
It had a spooky feel to it.
Had me thinking…..what a cool setting for a story. Or a scene in a film?
Something is definitely prodding at my writing self…..
Life creates art.
Bright orb…with halo
Suspended in the dark sky;
This winter’s moon is shining so brightly tonight! And with that halo, it also adds a feeling of spookiness.
I enjoy looking up at the sky during daylight hours for pretty clouds and sunrises and sunsets, as well as, on occasion late at night, looking at the moon and stars…..
Just now, a little after 3 a.m. I took out the garbage to the edge of the driveway (for pick-up later today), and as I was walking towards the far side of the house, I kept looking up to the sky, because tonight the moon is full and has this magnificent bright halo all around it with no clouds obscuring it from my sight. So, after putting the garbage in its spot, I ran back to the house and grabbed my camera and shot through the silhouetted black, spindly branches to capture that glowing moon orb.
What a neat effect!
Slowly in silence
In motion like a whisper –
The earth-kissing mist.
Last Friday on my evening walk, I didn’t know when I started out what beautiful views I would encounter, because it wasn’t until I reached the high point of the road that I could see signs of the approaching mist.
And I felt all excited at how the well-known views that I gaze upon so often would be magically transformed. Some of them seem like watercolour paintings. Some have a hint of spookiness with the addition of tiny plant silhouettes in the foreground. And extra beauty shines through when the colours of the darkening sky join in with this mysterious dance of the mists.
